Selection Process of SBI PO 2013:
(a) Phase-I of SBI PO 2013 : Written Examination (250 marks) consisting of Objective Tests and Descriptive Test.
(i) Objective Tests (200 marks) : The Objective Tests with 2 hour duration will consists of 4 Sections with 50 marks each as follows:
(a) Test of English Language (Grammer, Vocabulary, Comprehension etc)
(b) Test of General Awareness, Marketing and Computers
(c) Test of Data Analysis and Interpretation
(d) Test of Reasoning (High Level)
(ii) Descriptive Test (50 marks) of SBI PO 2013 : The Descriptive Test with 1 hour duration will be of “Test of English Language (comprehension, short precis, letter writing & essay)”.
(b) Phase-II of SBI PO 2013 : Group Discussion (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)
The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category and the candidates in the order of merit, subject to 3 times the number of vacancies in each category, will be called for Group Discussion and Interview.
(c) Final Selection of SBI PO 2013 :
The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and Group Discussion & Interview out of 100 for each category. The selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.
How To Prepare For SBI PO 2013: English Language?
The English language section of SBI PO 2013 consists of 50 questions of one mark each. The questions come from grammar, comprehension as well as vocabulary. So we will discuss on ‘How To Prepare For SBI PO 2013 English Language’ on each of these categories.
Comprehension:
The last SBI PO exam which was held on 07.03.2010, had 15 questions from reading comprehension. There were 2 passages. One of the passages was long and the other one was short. The longer passage had 10 questions while the shorter one had 5 questions. Most of the questions that were asked in comprehension were factual. You may get one or two inferential questions in this section for which you need good understanding of the passage. The most important thing in reading and comprehension is you speed of reading. Again while reading is important, understanding the passage is equally beneficial. Out of these 15 questions, you can always expect 5-6 antonym and synonym questions.So there the question pattern of SBI PO 2013 will be on similar lines.
Tips For Preparation for SBI PO 2013 :
Read as much as possible. Try to note down the time taken to complete a passage. Calculate the words per minute and try to improve it. But remember that understanding is also important.
Vocabulary for SBI PO 2013:
There might be 15-20 questions from vocabulary in SBI PO 2013. Questions will be from antonyms, synonyms, fill in the blanks, sentence arrangement etc. There is no shortcut for improving your vocabulary. It is a long process and can’t be achieved overnight. The best book for improving your vocabulary is ‘Word Power Made Easy’ by Norman Lewis.
Grammar for SBI PO 2013 :
In SBI PO 2013, in the grammar part, there will be questions from correct form of the verb, error detection etc. You can refer Wren and Martin or A J Thomson for grammar.
How To Prepare For SBI PO 2013: Data Analysis and Interpretation?
This section consists of 50 questions in SBI PO 2013 . If we consider the paper of SBI PO exam which was conducted in 2010, almost all the questions were DI questions. There were tables, linear graphs, histograms and pie-charts. There were four tables in that exam and each table had 5 questions to be answered under it. There was one linear graph, one histogram and one pie-chart. Though the questions were easy, the tricky part was the time management factor. Most of the questions required lengthy calculations to be done. For Data Interpretation you can go for R S Agarwal or Arun Sharma. These two books will proe useful during your preparation for SBI PO 2013 .
So to fetch more marks in SBI PO 2013, you need to have a thorough understanding of the following chapters.
- Percentage, profit and loss
- Ratio and proportion
- Average and allegation
Apart from the Data Interpretation questions, the other important thing in this section for SBI PO 2013 is Permutation, Combination and Probability. In the last SBI PO exam conducted in 2010, there were 5 questions from these chapters. go through ‘Quicker Maths’ by M Tyra for shortcuts. And finally, the most important thing is accuracy. While trying to improve you speed, you should also be sure about you accuracy. If you do these things, there is every chance that you will get good marks in SBI PO 2013 in this section.
How To Prepare For SBI PO 2013: Reasoning (high level)?
Most of the aspirants of SBI PO 2013 area really worried about this part as it mentioned that high level reasoning. But you need not panic. There are a few difficult questions in this section. But there are some easy questions as well. So the key in this section is your question selection. You need to select your questions wisely. It is almost impossible to answer all the questions in that stipulated time period. So you need to master the art of skipping a few questions. There will be questions from syllogism, circular and linear arrangement. There will also be a few questions from statement and argument, statement and assumption, statement and conclusion. These questions are a bit tricky and can be perfected only by practice. Finally, there will be around 5 non-verbal questions. These questions will be comparatively easier. You can refer R S Agarwal or Bs Sijwali.
This section might prove to be the decissive one in SBI PO 2013
How To Prepare For SBI PO 2013: General Awareness?
As it has been mentioned, in SBI PO 2013 this section will consist of questions from general awareness, marketing as well as computer. In this section, there will be around 20-25 questions from general knowledge alone. And the rest questions would be from the other two sections. For general knowledge, you need to read the monthly magazines regularly. You can consider reading ‘News and Events’ or ‘Pratiyogita Drapan’. Both are monthly magazines and very good for competitive exam preparations and for SBI PO 2013 as well
At the end, you need to practise the previous year question papers as well a few model practice papers. For previous year papers of SBI PO, you can go for Kiran Prakashan book. You can also buy a practice book.
Finally, I just want to say that you need to do really hard labour to crack SBI PO 2013.
